The Important Test
Rashid was nervous about his annual check-up at the medical centre because he needed an eye test, a hearing test, and a blood test. He did not like the blood test and remembered feeling scared the year before. The eye test was first. The optometrist asked Rashid to read letters from a chart. His left eye was strong, but his right eye needed help, so he needed glasses for reading and using a computer. Next, Rashid took the hearing test and heard all the beeps, even the quiet ones. Finally, he took the blood test. The nurse cleaned a small spot on his arm and told him it would be over quickly. Rashid felt only a tiny pinch and then it was finished. He felt relieved and happy. His mother told him she was proud of him because he had done something difficult and had been courageous. The next day, Rashid chose blue frames for his new glasses.
